Steel arrives on site as construction enters its next phase

Abu Dhabi, UAE, 6 November 2007

ADNEC4,000 tones of fabricated steel trusses have begun to arrive at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) as Phase 2 of ADNEC commences its next stage of construction ahead of schedule.

ADNECThe steel trusses will create the framework for the 55,000sqm development of Phase 2, providing the strength to support the 55,000sqm of Aluminium Cladding and 3,200sqm of glazing which will create the distinctive façade of ADNEC.

ADNEC built Phase 1 of the exhibition centre in world record time and this pace has been continued into Phase 2 of the development. This incredible speed is credited to the unique partnering programme which ADNEC has employed on the project.

The Partnering programme sees all involved in the delivery of the build, including client, project managers, architects, quantity surveyors and construction contractors working together to one shared objective.

His Excellency Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company said:

“I am delighted that we have entered into the next phase of construction of Phase 2 of the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre ahead of schedule. This is credit to the professionalism of all involved and demonstrates the excellent understanding of what is required to deliver a project of this scale and magnitude.”

Jamal Tamer, Director and Area General Manager of construction contractor Arabtec said:

This project is extremely important to Arabtec, Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre is vital to the UAE; the venue will bring millions of people from around the world to Abu Dhabi and Arabtec is extremely proud to play its part in this project.”

The first exhibition to make use of the whole of ADNEC Phases 1 and 2 will be the largest ever Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) which opens on November 3rd, 2008. The expanded exhibition facilities provided by ADNEC Phase 2 have enabled ADIPEC 2008 to become the largest petroleum exhibition in the world.
