pAn Amsterdam 2006, the Art and Antiques Fair of the Low Countries
Nov 19-26, 2006, Amsterdam, the Netherlands

pAn Amsterdam’s broad view

Helvoirt, August 2006. pAn Amsterdam, twenty years young, is more vital than ever and is firing on all cylinders. In view of last year’s success and the upbeat mood in the art market pAn Amsterdam 2006 promises to be a fair that runs like clockwork. The organization and the 114 exhibitors from the Netherlands, Flanders and Germany are determined to make it happen. This year pAn Amsterdam is getting a new stand design with a fresh, modern look. To celebrate the fair’s 20th anniversary all 20 year olds will get free entrance to pAn Amsterdam. The event is taking place in the RAI Parkhal in Amsterdam from 19 to 26 November inclusive. At 4.00 p.m. on Sunday 19 November there will be a spectacular fashion show presented by the eminent Amsterdam couturier Ronald Kolk. On Thursday 23 November from 6.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. the fair is organizing a private evening opening with Encounters with Art as the theme.

pAn Amsterdam—a birthday revamp
pAn Amsterdam was established in 1987 by six leading Dutch antique and art dealers: Mr. & Mrs. Dirven, E. Douwes Sr, R. Noortman, J. Stodel, the late J. Vecht and C.L. van der Ven. pAn stands for Pictura Antiquairs Nationaal and is the national counterpart of TEFAF Maastricht, which is organized by the same team. From the start pAn Amsterdam has also displayed modern art. In 1988 this was described by the then Minister of Welfare, Public Health and Culture, Elco Brinkman, as an ‘encouraging phenomenon’. pAn was indeed a pioneer in this field. Over the next few years the fair developed into a high-quality dynamic event. In 1993 it amalgamated with the Delft Art and Antiques Fair and as a result became the nation’s most important art and antiques fair. In the last two decades it has constantly reinvented itself. This year it gets a fresh, modern appearance. In the aisles there will be fitted carpets with linear colour patterns. The fascias of the stands are getting a cutting-edge design, with lighting effects reinforcing this modern look. The public areas at the fair will have a lounge-like atmosphere with high ceilings, long voile curtains and clean-lined, white seats with appropriate flower decorations.

New exhibitors
There will be five new exhibitors in 2006, four of them from Amsterdam. Willem Kerseboom Fine Art (Amsterdam) is bringing colourful modern art from China, where the art market and the quantity of art is exploding into life. Bruijstens Art (Amsterdam) are showing work by Henry Moore, Fernand Léger, Serge Poliakoff, Willem Hussum and others. Dolf D. van Omme (Amsterdam) specializes in 19th and 20th-century art and Bijl-Van Urk BV (Alkmaar) are adding even greater depth to the old masters section. Hillen Interieurarchitectuur (Amsterdam) is responsible for the interior design of the fair. America Antigua (Tilburg) and Dick Meijer Antiquiteiten (Amsterdam) are returning after a short absence. Both specialize in the art and archaeology of pre-Columbian America.

Special events at pAn Amsterdam 2006
• Visitors who can prove that they—like pAn Amsterdam—are twenty years young can have a free day at the fair between 19 and 26 November.
• On Sunday 19 November all visitors to pAn will get the chance to enjoy an artistic winter fashion show, staged by the highly individual Dutch couturier Ronald Kolk at the heart of the fair. The theme Travels through Time is entirely in keeping with the art at pAn Amsterdam and covers the period from 2000 years BC to the present day. The fashion reflects a mixture of cultures, ranging from India and the Balkans to the New World. The fashion show begins at 4.00 p.m.
• From 6.30 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. on Thursday 23 November there is a private opening with Encounters with Art as the theme. Artists, art experts, collectors and art lovers can get to know one another informally. This evening is by invitation only.
• The four-star hotel Banks Mansion is offering an anniversary package: a visit to pAn Amsterdam combined with a luxury overnight stay in the heart of Amsterdam.
• During the nine days of the fair, pAn Amsterdam is providing the nearby Amsterdam RAI railway station with posters and objects from the fair, and a special pAn package is being developed for railway passengers by pAn and NS Netherlands Railways.
