Mido 2007, the fair of the future: new space and new ideas for the industry’s most influential appointment
The most sought-after event, scheduled for May 4-7, in the new Rho-Pero facility Mido Design Lab – debut of an area totally devoted to design
Paris, October 26th 2006 – New location, same spirit. Mido’s got a new home, but its vision has remained the same – clearly focused on the future. The 37th International Optics, Optometry and Ophthalmology Exhibition will now be housed in the futuristic pavilions of the new Fiera Milano Complex at Rho – Pero, on the outskirts of Milan in a new, ultramodern structure, designed down to the smallest details to enhance the fair-going community. Reaffirming Mido’s leadership position, the new venue offers added value in terms of the notion of excellence that has always defined this event.
“Positive expectations are flourishing around Mido 2007, which portrays itself this year as the fair of the future, – states Cirillo Marcolin, President of Mido. Innovation and internationalization are the keynotes for 2007 that prompted the change of venue to the Rho-Pero facility. This avant-garde, modern location serves as a stimulus to promote new ideas and to offer a schedule full of timely events. It’s Mido’s response to the requests from those in the industry who expect the motivations and drawing power of the third millennium to be different from those of the past”.
The new structure – with gross floor area of 530,000 square meters in a global setting of two million square meters – is strategically linked to a transportation system capable of handling the flow of visitors drawn to this international event. A network of public transportation options connects the Fairgrounds to the city of Milan through its own “red line” metro station (direct connection with the downtown Piazza Duomo, in the heart of Milan); in addition to 24-hour taxi service. Numerous, large “intelligent” parking lots are available to for those who arrive by car -- 14,000 parking spaces serving the various buildings, some in mulit-level structures.
Mido will occupy Pavilions 1-3, 2-4 and 5-7, or the first 3 dual pavilions nearest the east gate, in the same area as the entrance to the Metro station. The pavilions are all single-story and are not interrupted by support columns, allowing exhibitors maximum freedom to design their stands in the most functional manner possible.
The 37th International Optics, Optometry and Ophthalmology Exhibition also strengthens its ties with its traditional host city, Milan -- the capital of fashion and design -- by inaugurating Mido Design Lab, a new take on Mido Trend. This year it takes on a new connotation in order to be closer to and responsive to the increasingly important “design” product. Creative design today represents a true market segment characterized by the search for extreme shapes-colors-materials-patents, thanks to the new pathways opened by experimentation. Mido conducted a “design vs fashion” study that led to development of this new area. Entry to this design space will be overseen by a special commission, so that only those companies that really bring to life innovative and unusual eyewear will be allowed to exhibit here.
The change of venue and all the features offered by the “new Mido” are the outcome of specific choices and historical decisions. They support the continuing growth of the Show, which year after year, has had the lead role in setting goals and achieving results -- from strengthening the number of exhibitors to increasing the number of visitors from countries all over the world, lending international breadth to the Exhibition -- as well as occupying the unique position of representing the entire industry.
