London Calling 2007
Jun 28-29, 2007, London, UK

LONDON CALLED AND THE MUSIC INDUSTRY LISTENED

Over 3,000 international delegates over two days
for the music industry’s hottest new event

"London Calling has emphatically put London on the map of international destinations for music trade events."
Alison Wenham, AIM's Chairman & CEO and President of WIN

June 29th and 30th saw London play host to the cream of the new music economy as London Calling hit town to become a new, permanent addition to the international music industry calendar. London Calling 2006 featured a new format creating a dynamic international event for artists, managers, labels, music publishers, service providers and brands building The Future of Music Business.

3,445 international delegates and visitors from around the world including 100 media attended London Calling which featured a combination of networking, educational and business events as well as a live music programme.

“London Calling is the future of music business events in this country - anyone with any interest in the rapidly developing UK market needs to be there.”
Iain Mackay, BMG Music Publishing Ltd

The London Calling seminars boasted over 1,000 paid-for delegates with many panels attracting numbers in excess of 200. The London Calling programme featured 40 world-class speakers from a dozen countries discussing themes key to the industry's future in the digital age. With speakers from companies as diverse as Nokia, AIM, O2, Sony BMG, MySpace, BBC 1Xtra, EMI and the BPI, London Calling presented a conference line-up that many established industry events would be proud of.

The main exhibition space was buzzing from the moment the doors opened with products and services being sold, relationships built and deals being struck. According to Vicky Ward from Omnifone, “There’s nothing else like it in London. All the right people are here and we’ve been able to set up some good meetings. We were so mobbed that I had to get the directors down to help”.

The event also featured two live performance stages and several innovative features such as the International Trading Floor and the Music Business Accelerator, which provided one-on-one sessions with leading specialists from licensing to legal.

Music Business Accelerator participant Dean Marsh, from the Independent Label Scheme, reported that he was “Overwhelmed at the response we’ve received at London Calling. I’ve been inundated with potential clients. The organisation of the event has been excellent – these guys know what they’re doing.”

London Calling also hosted the annual AIM AGM on 29th June at Earls Court as well as a range of formal and informal networking events. Alison Wenham, AIM's Chairman & CEO and President of WIN said “Feedback was excellent, and it makes you wonder why London has never before had its own music trade fair. Those days are now gone, and London Calling has emphatically put London on the map of international destinations for music trade events.”

Other exhibitors and delegates were also keen to share their thoughts on the event. Gray Gannaway, Head of Digital Distribution and Licensing, from CD Baby Digital Distribution said "We were extremely impressed with not only the professionalism of the event, but also the turnout and enthusiasm of the participants. We look forward to participating in London Calling in the future."

Paulina Ahokas, from Music Export, Finland, commented, “As I walked into Earls Court I bumped into Martin from Music Week, Brian from Just Songs, Jakomi from Rocksound and the list goes on. In short, in 10 minutes I had taken care of business that would have taken me 100 emails and 50 call backs. When time is money, this trip to London Calling was well worth it.

Scott Cohen, Founder & VP International from The Orchard said, “London Calling has far exceeded my expectations. This type of conference was long overdue for London. Our stand is buzzing with business.”

London Calling also featured several buzzing parties across the capital over five days at venues like Koko, Neighbourhood, The Cobden Club, Cargo and The Cross.

Andy Center, MD of organisers Ithaca Media concludes, “We have been delighted with the response to London Calling and look forward to watching it grow in size and reputation over the coming years. Our thanks are due to all our partners who have helped make this year’s show such a success, including AIM, UK Trade & Investment, Creative London and The British Council. London has long been an international hub for the music business but has not been host to a large scale industry event – well it is now!”

London Calling returns next year, taking place at Earls Court, London on the 28th and 29th June 2007.
