Yarn Expo, new independent trade event for fibres and yarns in Shanghai

* Yarn Expo Autumn 2007 will be launched this year as a new independent trade event for fibres and yarns in Shanghai

* China's rising yarn and fibre needs fuel demand for a special show in eastern China

After two successful years accompanying Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics, Yarn Expo Autumn will be launched this year as an independent speciality show with a new venue to give the event room to grow. Yarn Expo, to be held 29 - 31 October 2007 in Shanghai, will create an important niche trade platform in eastern China for yarns and fibres.

Yarn Expo has grown exponentially since its start in 2005 while accompanying Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics, one of the leading apparel fabrics trade events in China. Yarn Expo has now become successful enough to form its own unique trade event. Moving to a new location will help to establish the show's identity as a distinctive speciality trade event and allows it room to expand.

The new show will take place in Shanghai International Convention Centre with a free shuttle bus connecting it to the Shanghai New International Expo Centre where Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics will be held from 29 October to 1 November 2007.

As the fashion capital of China, Shanghai features some of the most important textile and apparel manufacturers in the nation. And overall, China remains the leading maker and exporter of textiles and apparel in the world: in 2006, China's textile exports increased 19% over 2005 and apparel exports jumped 29% - ultimately increasing the need for fibres and yarns.

The country's domestic consumption is equally important. Rising wages and increasing fashion sophistication have created exciting textile opportunities at home. China's per capita fibre consumption nearly doubled between 2000 and 2005, from 7.5 kg to 14 kg. And yarn imports to China in 2006 increased 6% over 2005, accounting for USD 4.5 billion.

Yarn Expo features natural fibres and yarns including cotton, wool, silk and linen/ramie; regenerated and synthetic man-made fibres and yarns; specialty products; elastic, fancy and blended yarns; and computer-related services.

Yarn Expo Autumn is organised by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd; The Sub-Council of Textile Industry, CCPIT; China Cotton Textile Association; China Wool Textile Association; China Chemical Fiber Association; China Bast & Leaf Fibers Textiles Association; and the China Textiles Information Centre.
