Messe Frankfurt India unleashes the powerhouse of Indian textiles to the world with one swift move

Global textile industry rates Textile Days India as the region’s most valuable show for serious business

Messe Frankfurt India announces Techtextil India 2007, to round off its complete textile offering to the industry

“Textile Days India” ended in Mumbai with the loudest applause from its most serious critics – the textile industry. “The best thing that has happened for the industry“ was the unanimous opinion of the global textile industry, as they took in the exquisite mix of home fashion and apparel fabrics & accessories on display at two fairs. The ideal combination of Heimtextil India (Home fashion) and Texworld India (Apparel fabrics and accessories) provided the right impulses to the textile industry who arrived in Mumbai to make contacts and do business.

A significant rise in visitor numbers was registered at Textile Days India. More than 12,456 visitors from 99 countries met a grand total of 318 exhibitors (220 at Heimtextil India, and 98 at Texworld India), from 15 countries. In its seventh year Heimtextil India continued to inspire, showcasing the entire range of home fashion products from bed, bath, table & kitchen linen to upholstery and accessories, while Texworld India surprised with its style and fantasy.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Mr. Detlef Braun, Managing Director and Member of the Board of Messe Frankfurt GmbH, said, “With this move Messe Frankfurt has unleashed the powerhouse of Indian textiles unto the global arena. India is an incredible textile country not only with its textile tradition but also with its depth of products, creativity and quality, and this was unabashedly evident at Textile Days India.”

“We have been present at many textile shows around the world but were stunned by the sheer beauty and transparency of the products, the high quality exhibitors, the optimism of the industry and the excellent organisation of the event. It was classy and stylish, and showed off the strengths of the Indian textile industry to the fullest”, said Alfredo Rezenze, President of ASM, Portugal, who with members of his delegation, were able to interact with Indian market leaders at the highest level.

“India is unbeatable when it comes to textiles, and “Textile Days India” provided a fantastic opportunity for both international, and domestic buyers & sellers to interact and do business. Never before have we seen such a well - organised and coordinated textile event in the country. The quality of exhibitors, product displays, trend shows and the international atmosphere was absolutely fantastic,” said Aloke Jaipuria, Gyan Silk Exports while exhibiting at Texworld India.

Meanwhile, the premier of Texworld India was greeted with great enthusiasm by the industry, who, until now had no international platform in the country. Texworld India was “dressed to kill”. The ambience and trendy atmosphere, together with high quality displays, immediately set the highest standards for the industry to conduct their apparel business.
India’s fashion fraternity also made it a point to visit Texworld India and were amazed with what they saw. “This is a sleek, stylish, well - organised trade fair, designed at par with fashion fairs in Europe. I am very happy to see the wonderful fabrics that are being shown by Indian exhibitors, and the fact that they are in such high demand by international buyers. That foreign buyers are actually travelling to visit the fair thrilled me. Overall, a great show, very beautifully designed. Congratulations, Messe Frankfurt India!“ said Abu Jani, a well known Indian fashion designer.

At the inaugural Press Conference, Messe Frankfurt India announced its third textile event in 2007 – Techtextil India, (International Trade Fair for Technical Textiles and Nonwovens). Speaking at the conference, Mr. Michael Jaenecke, Brand Manager of Techtextil, said, “the technical textiles arena in India is virtually untapped and this is the next big market. The Indian government, recognising its potential has given a huge thrust to this sector. The lack of proper infrastructure, medical technology, eco technology, all point to a rapid development of these sectors in India, and we are extremely confident that this fair will be an eye-opener to both parts of the domestic industry, the potential manufacturers of technical textiles and nonwovens as well as the users / converters of those materials. Already national presentations from Germany (High-Tex from Germany) and from Canada are confirmed, and we expect many more European companies from UK, France and Italy to join the show.“

Dignitaries from the Indian textile ministry attended the event in full force and quickly confirmed their support to “Textile Days India”. Shri S. Vahgela, Minister of Textiles, extolled the virtues of the Indian textile tradition while keeping pace with modern developments. Dr. Rajiv Agarwal, Textiles Committee, re-affirmed the government’s objectives to support the development of Technical textiles. “Messe Frankfurt has done more for the Indian textile industry than any other trade body and we salute its commitment to our country over the years” he said.

The three biggest international visitor nations at Textile Days India were Italy, Spain, and the Middle East, followed by Pakistan, Germany, and the Far East.

The fringe programmes at Textile Days India were one of the main attractions of the fair, and generated the right impulses for the industry. At Heimtextil India , Gunnar Frank excelled with his presentations on the future trends for home. At Texworld India, Ornella Bignami stunned with her creative genius with T.W.I.S.T, the fashion forecast for Autumn/ Winter 2007/2008. The International Wool Trade Organisation held its country summit at the show. Around 100 delegates from India and abroad affirmed the development of the woollen sector and its potential in India.

Important visiting delegations from more than 19 countries made their way to “Textile Days India“. These included representatives from the Portuguese Textile Association, The European Down and Feather Association, the German Textile Association, the International Wool Trade Organsiation, Representatives of the US Department of Commerce, and International Enterprise Singapore among them.
More than 279 buying agents from India and abroad visited Textile Days India. Many of them represented US and European importers and concluded good business deals with exhibitors.

“Textile Days India’ is an explosive combination of the best of what India has to offer in the important segments of home and apparel fashion and accessories“ explained Ms. Shammi Nagpal, Managing Director Messe Frankfurt India. “It is high time that the country had a international meeting point for textiles, and we are very happy to have lived up to the expectations of providing that to the industry. In an ambience of luxury and quality, we offer the industry a chance to participate in an international event that provides an intensive exchange of information along the entire value-added chain of all product groups and all quality categories, as well as all channels of distribution. Only at Textile Days India can buyers and sellers obtain a complete overview of the market in its full breadth and depth, as well as of the latest trends. Rounding off the range of services provided at the fair were in-depth areas, which supplemented the product presentations with ideas as well as special shows, all of which benefited the Indian textile industry as never before. The entry of Techtextil India into the event next year will provide even greater impetus to this industry.“

Textile Days India will next be held from 10 – 13 Oct. 2007, at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai. It features three outstanding events – Heimtextil India, Texworld India and Techtextil India.
