GREEN IS THE NEW BLACK:
Material World Miami Beach to Highlight Eco-Friendly Resources at April 2008 Edition

ATLANTA – There’s little question that green is the new black in fashion today. No longer considered a trend only for special brands, the “green” or “eco” chic movement is now being taken up by mainstream labels looking to meet the needs of an expanding market of environmentally conscious consumers. In response, Material World Miami Beach will offer a wide array of eco-friendly resources supported by educational programming during the April 8-10, 2008 trade event held at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami Beach, Fla.

From fabrics made from renewable resources ranging from organic cotton, bamboo, soy and ingeo corn fiber, to those crafted from ecological and environmentally sound processes, Material World will put special emphasis on this vitally important industry segment. Companies featuring these types of fabrics and solutions will be highlighted by an icon (shown left) on the show floor, in the show directory and in a variety of other pre-show marketing efforts.

Among the exhibitor highlights include:

Carr Textile will introduce a new stocked line of 100% Organic cotton twill in 24 colors. Carr Textile’s new Organic cotton is grown chemical-free. To whiten the fibers Carr Textile uses hydrogen peroxide instead of chlorine bleach. In addition, the dyeing process of the fabric is also certified to be safe for the environment meeting OEKO-TEX standard 100. Carr Textile uses low impact fiber reactive dyes instead of traditional dyestuffs such as sulfa or heavy metal dyes.

Insta Graphic Systems will introduce its new PVC-free Litho to its existing line of eco-friendly heat transfers. Insta’s new solvent and phthalate-free, PVC Litho transfer is a four color process transfer designed for graphics that are photographic in nature and incorporate blending color.

Solid Stone Fabrics has developed a new environmentally friendly technique for printing novelty and active apparel fabrics. E-Foil will apply the same foil and films to fabrics with no harmful gases and all by products are completely recyclable. The fabrics are machine-washable and the bond between the fabric and film is much stronger. This technique also allows base fabrics to be processed domestically, thereby reducing lead times and minimums.

Material World attendees will have the opportunity to attend Eco Think! What It Means to be Green for Consumers Today on Tuesday, April 8 from 12:45 p.m. – 1:45 p.m. Sponsored by Fabric Link and Textile Intelligence, this program will present the latest consumer research on purchasing habits and customer eco-awareness. The seminar will also focus on efforts being made in education, accessibility and price sensitivities in the “green” fabric marketplace. Admission is $5 in advance and $10 on-site.

Strategically timed to showcase Spring/Summer 2009 trends, the April 2008 edition of Material World Miami Beach edition once again offers sewn product industry members a one-stop global resource for sourcing, fabric, trim and trends. In addition to the most comprehensive presentation of US domestic and regional providers from throughout the Americas and the Caribbean, the spring 2008 edition of Material World Miami Beach will also include a strong international exhibitor base of fabric and trimming suppliers as well as garment manufacturers and representatives from around the globe, including China, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, India, Pakistan, Africa, Japan, Bangladesh and many more.

New for 2008, Material World Miami Beach will put the spotlight on two additional key growth areas, including: Performance and Sourcing Solutions: Global Matchmaking at Material World. These categories will also be emphasized with dedicated educational programming, special promotions and new product resources.

Further expanding the exhibition's comprehensive offerings Material World runs concurrently with Technology Solutions, the premier exposition and conference for information technology that enables today's sewn products industry.
