in-cosmetics Asia throws the Spotlight on Skin-Whitening

in-cosmetics Asia, the leading exhibition and conference in Asia for personal care ingredients, takes place on 13 – 15 October 2009 at Singapore Expo. One of the show’s highlights is the Spotlight on Skin-Whitening Conference. Held on the second day of the exhibition, the conference is essential for those within the industry wanting to update their knowledge on this lucrative market and includes presentations from the best innovators in the world, including Croda, DSM Nutritional Products and Shiseido.

The skin-whitening market in Asia has been growing steadily since the early 1970s and shows no sign of abating. Worth a reported US$18 billion in Asia alone, the sector offers immense commercial opportunities, with many of the world’s leading cosmetic companies launching products specifically designed to cater for Asian consumers. The conference is ideal for formulators, bench chemists and R&D specialists as well as application chemists responsible for regulatory and efficacy processes.

The conference will examine the differing methods used to whiten the skin, from melanin to skin stress control, UV protection and exfoliation as well as formulation compatibility and efficacy testing. Safety profiles, regulatory approval and claim substantiation will also be addressed, as will the availability and affordability of skin-whitening products in Asia’s key markets. The wide range of topics ensures that the delegates will benefit from a complete overview of the latest developments, formulations and technologies.

Speakers from a number of leading organisations within the industry, including Dow Corning, Lipotec, Sederma and Shiseido will be presenting at the conference. Dr. Shinji Inomata, Senior Manager, Functional Cosmetic Ingredient Development Group, Shiseido, is giving the keynote presentation on the Dermatological Function of Dark Spots whilst Dr. Alain Khaiat, President of Seers Consulting will discuss the Regulation of Skin-Whitening Products. Other papers not to be missed include John Staton, Director, Dermatest Pty Ltd, examining Efficacy Testing of Skin-Whitening Products and Hong Soh Bee, Technical Marketing Manager at Sederma, who will be providing an insight into A Tissue Approach to Whitening.

Sarah Gibson, Exhibition Manager at in-cosmetics Asia comments: “Skin-whitening remains a controversial topic, given some of the active ingredients historically used. However, Asian consumers are becoming better educated, demanding hard facts and proof that these products work, hence the need for manufacturers to reinforce the efficacy aspect as well as providing scientific evidence. The conference gives a complete overview of the trends within the industry, and examines the wide range of issues at the forefront of this growing market.”

With the cosmetic and toiletry industry in Asia expected to grow by up to 5% in 2009 and a host of big name exhibitors already confirmed, this year’s in-cosmetics Asia is a must-attend event for both exhibitors and visitors.
