The Royal Thai Government's Department of Export Promotion, Ministry of Commerce will be holding BIFF & BIL 2008 (Bangkok International Fashion Fair and Bangkok International Leather Fair 2008); a grand fashion & leather event of the ASEAN region during 27-31 August 2008.

As part of its efforts to brand Bangkok as the "ASEAN Fashion Center", the Department of Export Promotion (DEP) under the Ministry of Commerce is planning to accentuate the capacity of the Thai fashion and leather industry by showcasing the "Bangkok International Fashion Fair and Bangkok International Leather Fair 2008" (BIFF & BIL 2008), to take place during 27-31 August 2008 at Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Center (BITEC) Bangna.
BIFF & BIL 2008 is regarded as the foremost regional sourcing and networking platform for both local and overseas fashion trade professionals. The event provides an excellent opportunity to pronounce Thailand 's fashion and leather business capability in a full range of services including design, manufacture and merchandise, with emphasis on a strategy of value-added in every segment of the fashion and leather industry to enhance global competitiveness. To communicate this concept and attract participation from buyers, sellers, manufacturers and agents, the event will be divided into fashion shows and exhibitions to present fashion and leatherware collections by Thaland's established designers as well as selected young up-and-coming designers in order to provide a comprehensive showcase.
Among the main activities will be a Designers' Room 2008 showcasing works from up-and-coming designers, classified by their experience and marketing potential. They comprise:
Now - a group of 40 young blood designers with their own brand and less than 8 years' experience.
Next - a group of 10 designers with their own brands and over 8 years' experience who have participated in Department of Export Promotion's designer programme, and have achieved a level of success and nation-wide recognition.
Design Circle - a group of 15 individuals or organisations offering a service in the fashion design and related fields such as freelance designers, industrial designers, international design professionals and fashion.
Other activities include
• Gear to US showcasing product samples developed by US market fashion experts categorised into Active Wear, Men's Wear, Women's Wear, and Children's Wear from 10 manufacturers.
• Resort Wear highlighting summer wear as well as travel and resort wear and accessories including Men's Wear, Women's Wear, Children's Wear, bathing suits, shoes, bags, and fashion accessories like sunglasses and hats as well as resort amenities and materials.
• Trend Forum T3 (Thai Tex Trend) displaying textiles of T3 members designed in keeping with the global fashion trend to enhance the Thai textile industry.
• BKK SMITH consolidating a group of new wave jewellery designers and entrepreneurs with outstanding and unique jewellery design talents.
Underlining the activities will be a regional conference to provide a forum of exchange in the fashion business which is expected to foster mutual cooperation, business extension and knowledge enhancement as well as expand the fashion market into the regional and global arenas. Topics to be discussed include "Fashion Trend Conference", "Insight of Japanese Fashion Market", "Textile Logistics and Supply Chain Management in USA " and "Thai Fabric Innovation Goes Global".
Last but not least, BIFF & BIL 2008 will also be the platform for the Asia Fashion Federation Conference 2008 under the theme "Today Asian Fashion Lifestyle". Participating will be some 200 representatives of the five member countries of the Asia Fashion Federation: China, Japan, Korea, Singapore and Thailand . The conference aims to present constructive information that will benefit the future development of the regional fashion industry and boost business operation amongst members.
The conference will also serve to underline Thailand 's competency as Asia's fashion centre, raise the profile of BIFF & BIL 2008 to international level, and promote mutual cooperation and knowledge exchange among members of Asia 's fashion industry.
