Modern, but not fashionable: Outdoor/garden furniture trends 2008

Life in the garden is lifestyle in the garden
Modern, but not fashionable: Outdoor/garden furniture trends 2008 - Accessories create atmospheres - Kitchen goes garden

What is "in" today is "out" tomorrow? That will not happen to garden furniture buyers, because thanks to outstanding quality, well-thought out functionality and exquisite materials, the standard of outdoor furniture is noticeably increasing and also being correspondingly given a "Longlife" design by its creators. Eat your fill whilst getting your fill of the scenery is also the motto for the new outdoor kitchens, which following the lounges for the "garden living room", are now making inroads into green cooking oases. And with the matching light accessories, the second open-air home is now complete. All the home furnishings trends for the "feel-good factor garden" will be shown by spoga Cologne - International Trade Fair for Sport, Camping and Garden Lifestyle from 2nd to 4th September.

Wood and steel in the mix
"Opposites attract." What applies in love cannot be completely wrong in garden furniture. That is what the outdoor furniture manufacturers also thought and are now presenting collections which are elevating the style mix to an art form. The dominating combination is wood and steel, a mix which will attract a lot of attention in the garden. Because wood radiates warmth and cosiness while steel, in contrast, delivers a cool, purist highlight. Here in particular, teakwood is presented in a new look. But other woods such as robinia and beech are also suitable for such creative playing around and experimentation. Anyone who would like to have an even more eccentric, unusual look outside, is accommodated by the trend towards especially exquisite variations featuring glass, slate or marble - especially with table tops. No doubt: "Mix it" is in demand!

Exquisite in black-white
Playing and experimenting with strong contrasts: as an unsurpassed interplay for the coming season, black-and-white are taking to the outdoor stage. For several years now both have already been among the dominating colours in garden/outdoor furniture, black as the quintessence of exclusivity and style, white as the symbol of lightness and freshness. Together they now radiate a unique flair: extravagant, exquisite and unobtrusive. The combination ensures very distinctive features and an effective overall look - especially in the exciting interaction with the green of nature. And thanks to innovative high-tech materials, which ensure that the furniture is UV-resistant, dirt-resistant and water-repellent, the strong contrast does not give way to a meaningless, dull grey-in-grey tone after just a short time.

Lounges for lazing about on
Relaxation, chilling out, enjoyment: Lounging is popular like never before. The more the borders between in and outdoor furnishings become blurred, the stronger the inroads made by cosy sofas, couches and armchairs into the garden. Instead of uncomfortable seating, the motto is now: let's enjoy the cushions in a casual-luxurious setting. And the "right" living rooms for the open air are now a definite must in trendy garden furniture exhibitions and ranges. Because next season even the "roof over your head" will be moving outside.

Light decoration which enchants and delights
When night falls, the garden becomes a stage - at least with light effects, which convey and radiate a fairytale-like charm. Candles and torches continue to be suitable accessories. But should we restrict ourselves to just these? That would be a big mistake! Because in order to present the garden in a modern and exceptional style, design light sources are a must for the coming season, including for example light globes, which ensure an atmospheric setting in the pond or between the flowers. Or light cubes in the most diverse colours, which do not simply only look attractive, but can also be used as a plant vessel/pot or table. And sitting down and cosily reading a book is no longer a problem either thanks to waterproof lamps which radiate living room flair.

Outdoor cooking
Move that wooden spoon! Not only the living room is now being increasingly shifted to the garden. The trend now all the rage is complete outdoor kitchens, which enable you to not only grill or barbecue, but also produce proper menus outside in the open air. The manufacturers are offering flexible kitchenettes with a grill, Teppan Yaki, storage compartments, storage space and wash basins. Especially practical: the kitchens are available both as fixed units as well as mobile variations. Parallel to this trend, the barbecues are also developing into genuine, multi-functional cookeries with fast burners, grill and smoking drawer. And the more Outdoor Cooking develops into a lifestyle, the more important the matching accessories will also become. That is why complete accessories ranges for outdoor cooking are now coming onto the market.
