I Saloni 2007: another great success

Review 2007
The second appearance of the Saloni at the Rho exhibition centre exceeded all possible expectations, replicating the huge success of the previous edition.

The curtain fell on another record-breaking edition of the Salone Internazionale del Mobile on Monday 23rd April 2007. The 46th edition also starred the biennial Euroluce (International Lighting Exhibition), the International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition and SaloneSatellite.

I Saloni 2008: Excellence to the Fore

The Saloni are now into the home straight, preparing to take Milan by storm as always in April – from 16th to 21st this year – at the Milan Fairgrounds at Rho, with a huge range of superlative exhibits. There will be five exhibitions altogether, as always in even years, along with two extraordinary city events.

Every April, every year, the home/contract furnishing sector is caught up with an event quite unlike any other, anywhere in the world. This unique experience is the Saloni – not just the leading event in the sector at global level, but also a matchless occasion for an international meeting of minds – not to mention business, image and communication. This year, the colossus will again spread its wings from 16th to 21st April, at the Milan Fairgrounds, Rho.

The success of the previous edition with its 270,000 visitors, of whom 165,000 came from 145 foreign countries, together with the tremendous satisfaction of nigh on 2,000 exhibiting companies, provides us with our launch pad. Renewed enthusiasm will fuel the work in progress for the Saloni, which will encompass over 220,000 square metres in a tight-knit team effort that will include the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, Eurocucina, the new SaloneUfficio, International Biennial Workspace Exhibition (formerly EIMU) - the new name that says it all, bringing it into line with the other events and giving it greater prominence, the International Bathroom Furniture Exhibition, the International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition and SaloneSatellite.

As always, there will be an infinite variety of goods on offer. The Salone Internazionale del Mobile, together with the International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition will be a showcase for excellence covering all types of domestic furnishing, from single pieces to coordinates, and every conceivable style, from classic to design to modern, not to mention trendsetters.

Offering the very best in kitchen furniture, as well as furnishing accessories and its collateral offering FTK (Technology for the Kitchen), devoted to technological innovation in built-in electrical appliances, Eurocucina – now in its 17th edition – will prove to be the most all-embracing platform in its sector.

On the office front, there is a change of name for EIMU, which has become SaloneUfficio, a name that says it all and brings it into line with the other Saloni events, a showcase of excellence for furniture and accessories for the workplace, banks, insurance companies, post offices and communities, as well as solutions for the home office. This year, too, there will be a macro cross-theme running alongside the purely commercial offering. This will be entitled “Ufficio Fabbrica Creativa” (The Office as Creative Hub), which will turn the spotlight on modern offices – viewed as the factories of today – hubs of creative activity.

All the exhibiting firms will have an opportunity to take part in an open competition that will explore the cross-theme through a series of products and innovatory technological solutions. There will also be a collateral event, conceived by the renowned artist Michelangelo Pistoletto providing an entirely new take on the theme, and there will be several conventions, including Designing Designers “Offices and Workplaces for Knowledge Workers”. These will provide an opportunity for economists, sociologists, entrepreneurs, architects and designers to come together and discuss the office of the future and the future of creativity. Furthermore, a collaboration agreement with the top organisation in the category, the IFMA/International Facility Management Association, will bring in high-profile international operators involved with the Facility and with sectorial innovations for workspace management.

Another biennial feature of the 2008 edition of the Saloni is the International Bathroom Furniture Exhibition, which has now become an unmissable appointment for those who want to be kept up to date in real time on the latest in accessories and bathroom furniture, shower cubicles and saunas, sanitary ware, radiators, coverings, bathroom taps, bath and whirlpool tubs.

Last but not least, SaloneSatellite will continue its tradition of showcasing a great many furniture prototypes created by talented young designers.

Quite apart from the excellence of the commercial offering and the huge variety of new products, the beautifully choreographed stands and the impeccable services that make any visit to the exhibition complex more user-friendly and accessible, the Saloni will also include an unmissable range of collateral events, to be held both at the Fairgrounds and in the city itself. The greatest surprise will be the event – from 16th to 4th May in the Sala delle Cariatidi at Palazzo Reale – featuring the internationally-renowned artist Peter Greenaway along with an icon of Milan’s and Italy’s cultural heritage par excellence, not to mention one of the most famous works of art in the world, setting the seal once again on the happy relationship between the Saloni and the Municipality of Milan and, by extension, the Ministry for Architecture and the Cityscape of Milan.
