imm cologne presents the Interior Trends for 2008
What are the Interior Trends in 2008? This year, once again, the top-ranking international members of the Trendboard at imm cologne investigated this question within the framework of a two-day workshop. At the invitation of Koelnmesse the Trendboard met on 10th and 11th June 2007 in Cologne in order to conduct an exchange on the most important trends and developments in the area of Interior Design and to consult on the trends for 2008. In addition to the architect Eero Koivisto from Stockholm, who has already been a member of the Trendboard since 2006, this year the New York designer Stephen Burks and journalist Sophie Lovell who lives in Berlin, are making an appearance as members of the expert committee for the second time along with materials specialist Christiane Sauer and the designer from Milan, Fabio Novembre, who will be participating for the first time.
The two-day workshop was characterized by a keen exchange and at times controversial discussions. Phenomena were established, key words formulated, directions and approaches set; forms, colours as well as materials allocated to the respective trends and target groups. Already in the run-up to the workshop the experts had intensively concerned themselves with current design trends. They presented their results to the other Trendboard members during the workshop. The actual work facing the experts was to agree on, and name four basic, fundamental design trends, which in their opinion, will determine the Interior sector next year.
The results of the workshop will appear in autumn 2007 in the Interior Trends 2008 publication and will be available free of charge to journalists as well as exhibitors at imm cologne in the run-up to the fair. During the fair the four trends will then be presented within the framework of the "informed by cologne" Trend Forum in an exhibition and more closely examined and illustrated in a lecture programme. With the trend activities at imm cologne Koelnmesse is underlining its expertise and competence as an international location for the furniture and interior sector. |
The members of the 2008 imm Trendboard
For the third time Eero Koivisto, co-owner of the renowned Stockholm Architecture Office Claesson/Koivisto/Rune, will be sitting on the experts' committee. The architect and designer builds and designs worldwide for international clients. In connection with the Claesson/Koivisto/Rune Architecture Office, a comprehensive work overview was recently shown at Phaidon.
For the first time the Milan architect and designer Fabio Novembre is a member of the Trendboard. He became well known particularly through his designs for Italian furniture manufacturer Cappellini as well as showroom design and layout for the mosaic specialist Bisazzat. Recently a book was published by Skira International Corporation with an overview of his previous works.
As an expert in the area of materials, architect Christiane Sauer will be a member of this year's Trendboard for the first time. Before she founded her office for Architecture and Material, ForMade, in Berlin in 2001, she worked among others for Rem Koolhaas' OMA in Rotterdam. In addition, she writes for international trade journals and magazines on the theme of architecture and material. Among others she is the author of the "New Materials" series for md design magazine.
Berlin-based journalist Sophie Lovell has an outstanding overview of the latest design trends. Born in England she writes for Wallpaper magazine and is the author of several books on architecture and design themes. Recently her book Furnish was published by Gestalten Verlag.
As in previous years, a non-European will also be a member of the Trendboard. Stephen Burks from New York manages the Readymade Projects Design Studio, which is specialized in the areas of interior design as well as packaging, lighting, furniture and industry design. As Creative Director, Burks is responsible among others for the Missoni Home Collection. |
