Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition
Jun 8-11, 2008, Guangzhou, China

The International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) amongst the major endorsers of Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition 2008

By January 2008, over 1,220 companies from 16 countries confirmed to exhibit – making the event 12% bigger than before

The International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) has pledged its support for the Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition, scheduled for 8 – 11 June 2008 in Guangzhou. Visitors to the fair will be able to meet and talk with senior representatives of the IALD. Other leading light industry organisations from the world have joined the IALD in giving their endorsement. LUCI – Lighting Urban Community International, KIIC – Korea Illuminating Industry Cooperative, China Illuminating Engineering Society, and The Hong Kong Institute of Engineers-Building Services Division are all signed on as supporters.

“As a supporter of the Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition 2008, the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) simultaneously recognizes the importance of global design collaboration and the emergence of inspired lighting design throughout Asia,” says Ms Marsha L. Turner, Executive Vice President of the IALD. “As the largest lighting fair in the Asian region, partnering with Guangzhou will assist the IALD in increasing knowledge of lighting design as a global practice, and further bolster recognition of the importance of commissioning a professional lighting designer in all building projects, ensuring the development of quality in lighting design. We hope fair attendees will leave with an awareness of the international scope of the IALD and its activities, and the importance of the Fair in encouraging the growth of the lighting design profession.”

“We fully support the Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition, as we are very close to China and other Asian countries and it is important to us to have strong overseas connections in the lighting industry, says Mr. Young-Sik, Kang, Chairman of the Korea Illuminating Industry Cooperative. “We want to play an active role in developing and maintaining KIIC member’s relationships with industry peers overseas. To that end, we will attend the Guangzhou fair every year and discuss positive directions for our industry”.

At the end of January 2008, over 1,220 companies from 16 countries had confirmed their participation in the fair; amongst them market-leaders such as Cooper Electric, Fulham Electronic, Osram, Philips, Thorn, and Samsung. With total floor space reaching 90,000 square metres, the 2008 fair will be around 12% bigger than in 2007.

“We anticipate that demand for advertising and signboards in China will grow rapidly, especially in light of the Olympics and the World Expo,” says Mr. Honggu Yun of Samsung. “We are firmly committed to the Chinese market, evidenced by our new subsidiaries opening in Shenzhen and our return to the Guangzhou lighting fair. We hope this fair will open up the south China region for our business.”

The Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition is part of the Light+Building group of Messe Frankfurt fairs, headed by the biennial Light+Building event in Frankfurt.
