Brussels Furniture Fair
Preview: a green view of the future

Green is hot! Green means nature. Green means growth. And sustainability. Green is a trend or, rather, a must for the future.
The Brussels Furniture Fair has opted for green this year. And it’s suitable in every way.

Green is alive and kicking in the furniture world. Green colours the evolution of the Brussels Furniture Fair. Year after year we work on a ‘green’ growth process or upgrading. We aim for sustainable success, meaning better, but not necessarily more. However, an increase in square metres and the number of exhibitors is always good news. That is the case this year: the fair has been extended to include Hall 10, as a part of our new ‘Brussels by Night’ section.

Green is also synonymous with fresh, new and innovative. The Brussels Furniture Fair presents new exhibitors, new initiatives and new visions that increase its quality. For visitors it means they gain fresh ideas and new inspiration and can do better business.

This is why:
The segmentation has become more professional and effective, thanks to the addition of Brussels by Night
Square is even more oriented towards design and creative innovations
Be Magazine gives a broader view of Belgian furniture
The Trend presentations will be more emphatic and more imaginative
We have created a new award: the Balthazars

A broader, international impact

The Brussels Furniture Fair has become an international platform for furniture in the Benelux. On top of this, Brussels is attracting more and more exhibitors and visitors from both Belgium and beyond. Its reach outside the Benelux countries continues to expand. In Benelux, furniture means Brussels, so that’s where everyone goes.
This fair does not have the fame of the gigantic professional fairs, but has won its own niche in the European furniture sector. Professionals are aware that the Brussels Expo opens doors to many international contacts.
The attraction of Brussels lies in its compactness, broad range, effective segmentation and open atmosphere.

Better segmentation
Brussels was the first professional fair to organise itself by means of consistent and efficient segmentation. The relationships between the segments and their content reflect the evolution of the market.
City: once it was just modern furniture, now it’s the metropolitan way of life and the universal interior. A style that’s evolving rapidly and spreading around the world.
Privilege: once this was traditional classical furniture, now it’s an outlook on life that expresses a love of craftsmanship, materials and an eye for detail.
Nomad: in the past this was colonial furniture, now it’s the lifestyle of a globetrotter in search of exotic places and cultures, who feels at home everywhere.
Mosaic: formerly a varied and colourful mosaic, this now expresses a feeling that anything is possible; a measured mix of styles, materials and trends.
Brussels by Night: still the marketing-conscious top-end, now grouped into a brand new segment apart, the domain of bedroom specialists.

New: Brussels by Night
Brussels by Night is the domain of bedroom specialists, manufacturers and sellers. The bedroom sector is separate speciality in the furniture world and deserves its own individual position at the fair. This is why parts of Halls 6 and 10 have been transformed into a deep-blue nocturnal world.
All the big names have chosen to take part:
Anker Bedding, Aeromat, Carpe Diem, Dunlopillo, Elsach, Hilding, Kreamat, LS Bedding, Polypreen, Pullman, Recor Bedding, Revor, Robusta, Simmons, Tempur, Van Landschoot, Veldeman Bedding, Vroomshoop.

To cap it all, Lattoflex is using Brussels by Night to celebrate its 50th anniversary and to launch its revolutionary innovations. In fact the Recticel Group has taken over the whole of Hall 10, so apart from Lattoflex it includes Swissflex, Beka and Olivier Strelli for Beka.

Square 2007
The Square satellite fair covers the world of strong brands and young and up and coming design talent (in the Designstreet).
Square shows a whole new world. Minimal design is immersed in a romantic, baroque, and playful atmosphere. This time a black rope guides the visitor around, endless frilled lengths swirling through the hall like a wave from lampshade to lampshade, along the gangways and over the stands, presenting a festive, frolicsome and intriguing sight. The eye-catcher for Square 2007 is Dark’s Franje lamp. The festoon then leads to the stage, the setting for the bar and the press lounge. The décor is by Juventa Office, Quinze & Milan, Vange and… Le Couchon, who provide the shocking poufs.
A strong concept for a strong Square. A highly varied and interesting range of original, stylish, innovative products, to which the Square concept gives the extra attention they deserve! Square is an appealing mix of intriguing newcomers and established names.

2008 style themes and trend presentation
For the 2008 Brussels Furniture Fair, Art Director Siegrid Demyttenaere has developed 3 new style themes for the new 2008 season. They are very distinct and powerful. Life and living are pure emotions – in terms of social and cultural beliefs, but also in the materials used.

In The Mood for Fun: Oriental love and fun, contemporary Asia, Chinese Western kitsch and culture.
Remain in Transition: intelligent urban nest, big city, lonely hearts, individual web world, longing for warmth and emotions, cherishing treasures.
The Zoo of Nature: captured, fake and copied nature, preserving nature, ecologically sound, sustainable.

These 3 style themes will come to life in trend showcases in the passages between the halls. These trend presentations show how trendy and fashionable the world of furniture has become.

Be Magazine

The third edition of Be Magazine looks completely different from previous editions. It’s a real magazine of 100 pages and before the fair started 20,000 copies were sent to European buyers, while at the fair it will be offered for free to visitors.
It’s pleasant to read, but also full of useful information: informative articles and no-nonsense reports on furniture in the broadest sense. It is a marketing instrument that shows how the Brussels Furniture Fair is evolving and gives an up-to-date view of Belgium as a furniture producing country.

NEW award: the Balthazar of Furniture

And the winner is… the Oscars and the Emmys will soon be joined by the Balthazars. This year the Balthazars of Furniture will be awarded for the first time, in the following categories:
The most innovative product
The trendiest product
The best Belgian product
And, especially for Brussels by Night, an extra Balthazar for the most innovative product in the world of bedroom comfort.

A professional jury made up of people closely involved with furniture will choose the winners. The Balthazars will be awarded each year.
