Ambiente 2008: the world's leading trade fair for the consumer-goods sector with top highlights

• NEW: high-grade design from the Land of the Rising Sun: 'Japan Style' in Hall 5.1B

• NEW: Trend Forum by 'Stilbüro bora.herke' in Galleria 1

Ambiente, the world's biggest meeting place for the international consumer-goods sector, opens its doors again in Frankfurt am Main from 8 to 12 February 2008. Over these five days, the leading international trade fair for products for the table, kitchen, household, giving and decorating, as well as home and furnishing accessories, will reveal what is going to be on show in shops around the globe next year. Ambiente is where trade buyers from all over the world order their main assortments for the forthcoming season.

Dining
At Dining, the focus is on products for the table, kitchen and house¬hold. In other words, everything from premium dinner services, via modern cutlery, dishes, glass and ceramic products, to useful household articles and modern small electrical appliances. This is where major players, such as Kahla, Koziol, Rosenthal, Robbe & Berking Silbermanufaktur, Villeroy & Boch, Wedgwood and WMF show their latest collections and innovations. That modern, fully-automatic coffee machines have developed into coveted fashion and furnishing objects is reflected by the growth of this segment at Ambiente over recent years: since 2004, the exhibition space sold to manufacturers of small electrical appliances has risen threefold. Among the companies taking part in 2008 will be BSH Bosch and Siemens Hausgeräte, Grundig, Jura, Magimix, Melitta Haushalts¬produkte, Nespresso and Saeco. How professional coffee makers use the various machines can be seen at the German Spring Championships of the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe (SCAE). Also to be held at Ambiente 2008: the 2nd German Barista and Roster Championships.

Giving
Gift ideas, jewellery, toys, handicrafts, figures, stationery, candles and smokers' accessories are the subjects of attention in the colourful world of Giving. Exhibitors such as Baden Import, Broste Copenhagen, Cepewa, Gilde Handwerk Macrander, Hoff Interieur, Kaheku schönes Wohnen, Räder, Reisenthel, Schütte Lueder & Leidenberg, Wendt & Kühn and Zippo will reveal the variety covered by this segment – from trend presents to the finest collectors' editions. As in the past, exhibitors of genuine jewellery, creative costume jewellery and personal accessories will make their presentations in Hall 5.0. New in Hall 3.0 is 'Kids World' with the latest and best products for discriminating children.

Living
The home and furnishings are the themes of Living with home accessories, textiles, furniture, outdoor equipment, classic home concepts, seasonal decorations and pictures & frames. From youthful avant-garde to a luxurious country-house style – Living shows a wide range of home ideas from exhibitors such as Anthologie Quartett, Driade, Haans, Henry Dean, Lambert, Nic Duysens, Normann Copenhagen and O Living. Highly successful in recent years has been the seasonal-decorations section so that, in 2008, Hall 4.0 will focus fully on the fields of Seasonal Decoration and Outdoor Living.
Once again, selected exhibitors from overseas will present a spectrum of high-grade home accessories and gift articles for the bulk business on individually designed exhibition stands at Passage Select in Hall 2.0 and in the Forum.

Trend and design highlights at Ambiente
For the first time at Ambiente, the Trend Forum in Galleria 1 will offer an insight into the most im¬portant trends. The creative team from 'Bora.Herke Stilbüro' presents four trend themes that will give trade visitors guidance about the materials, colours and shapes likely to be 'in' in the coming season.
Another new feature in 2008 will be 'Japan Style' in the foyer between Hall 5.1 and the Congress Centre. The project, which shows selected fashionable products from this design-oriented country “Japan”, consists of the special lifestyle presentation of Japanese Ministry for Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and an additional area of individual exhibitors. Innovative design and new product ideas are to be found in abundance at 'Talents' in Hall 6.1. Within the framework of this promotional programme, Messe Frankfurt provides free exhibition space for young designers at the Talents special show where they can present their designs and prototypes to an international audience of experts, test that their ideas are ripe for marketing and make important contacts to representatives of trade and industry.

Awards and competitions
The highlights at Ambiente include the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany, the nation's official design prize, which is organised by the German Design Council (Rat für Formgebung) on behalf of the German Ministry for Economics and Technology and presented during the Ambiente opening ceremony. The award-winning products are to be seen at an exhibition in the foyer of Halls 5.1 / 6.1.
Also to be seen in this foyer are the winners of the Design Plus Awards, which are given for consumer-goods that are not only distinguished by outstanding design but also by great functionality and environmental compatibility. The competition, which has been organised by Messe Frankfurt in cooperation with the German Design Council and the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (Deutscher Industrie- und Handelskammertag – DIHK) since 1983, is open to all Ambiente exhibitors. Also to be presented at Ambiente 2008 is the 2nd Plastics Prize with the Products of the Year. In addition to these renowned awards, Plagiarius, the negative distinction for product piracy, will also be awarded at Ambiente for particularly brazen product forgeries. After the ceremony, the 'prize-winning' copies can be seen alongside the original products in the foyer of Hall 4.1.

Asianliving
Just a few kilometres away in Offenbach, Asianliving will open its doors parallel to Ambiente from 9 to 12 February 2008. The organisers, Messe Frankfurt Ausstellungen GmbH, expect around 300 suppliers to take part in this trade event with an attractive range of products 'made in Asia'. The spectrum to be seen ranges from arts & crafts, via mass-produced commodities for the kitchen, bathroom, home, garden, to gift articles. Holders of an Ambiente admission ticket can enter Asianliving free of charge. A free shuttle-bus service links the two events at ten-minute intervals. Detailed information can be found on the internet at www.asian-living.de.
