Helvoirt, 17 Sep 2007- pAn Amsterdam, the art and antiques fair of today, is increasing its range of modern and contemporary art. This now makes up 30% of the total area of the fair. This year the fair will be welcoming a record number of 121 exhibitors. Eight are taking part for the first time, three are returning after a break. The specialists in African art, young Japanese and South Korean painting and antique mantelpieces are new. Many of the objects at pAn have a story, such as a flag, made in 1747 in honour of the appointment of William IV as Hereditary Stadholder, a balloon flight ring from 1783 which symbolizes the first manned flight of a hot-air balloon, a rare ‘Kashmir palette’ tulip vase from around 1700 and a Louis XV commode with Japanese lacquer panels. Great painters too, such as Honthorst, Renoir, Braque and Dubuffet, and contemporary work by artists such as Pat Andrea, Klaus Baumgärtner, Ossip and Panamarenco reflect the broad outlook of pAn Amsterdam. Jeweller Fred Brom and gallery owner Mark Slegers join the Supervisory Board of pAn Amsterdam. The antique dealers Jacques Fijnaut and Gerard Wijermars are stepping down as members of this board and will join the board of the Foundation. pAn Amsterdam runs from18 to 25 November in the Parkhal of RAI Amsterdam.
The art and antiques fair of today
The makeover launched successfully last year will be continued in 2007. It is immediately evident in the trendy look of the fair, with fresh, modern colours and materials. This year orange is the most important colour accent in the floor covering and flowers. The quality of the range of modern and contemporary art on offer is being strengthened with the arrival of six leading galleries, including Galerie Ramakers, Cokkie Snoei and Canvas International Art. pAn Amsterdam is attracting more and more thirty and forty year olds. Last year this resulted in almost 36,000 visitors, a record for the 21 year-old fair. With the even wider range and the contemporary design of the fair, pAn Amsterdam hopes to attract even more new young customers.
