French Fashion University’s ‘extravagance’ fashion show draws large crowd
Innovative designs foreshadow emergence of leading names within regional fashion industry
 French Fashion University Esmod International (FFUE), the internationally acclaimed French fashion institution, has announced that more than 220 people attended its ‘extravagance’ themed fashion show, held recently at the University’s Academic City Campus (December 20, 2006). Up to 30 students from 12 nationalities, including 10 UAE nationals, exhibited their creations following months of hard work and professional training.
“I am delighted at the success of the event and at the quality of the garments produced by the students. The show attracted many people, including leading names within the regional fashion industry, and the audience was impressed with the students’ flawless designs that seamlessly integrated Middle Eastern and European influences,” said Tamara Hostal, Associate Director PR & Marketing, FFUE.
“FFUE prepares the country’s future fashionistas with the capacity to create and produce fashion, carving the way for leading names in fashion design to emerge from the UAE within the next few years,” Hostal added.
The Dubai-based FFUE was opened in October 2006, directed at tapping into the region’s booming fashion industry and the growing demand of Middle Eastern consumer’s for haute culture. Founded in Paris in 1841 by Frenchman Alexis Lavigne, Esmod was the first institution to codify couture by inventing tools used by fashion designers such as the mannequin and the measuring tape. Since then, the school has opened in 20 countries and trained generations of professionals who have worked for international stylists such as Dior, Yves Saint-Laurent, Kenzo, Paco Rabanne, Jean Paul Gaultier, Givenchy and others.
FFUE offers a range of creative, technical and marketing programs for students wishing to become actors of the growing fashion industry in the region. Various courses are taught by the French-trained instructors, including a three-year full time BA Diploma course, a two-year part time diploma and short certificate course. Additionally, master-classes in trend forecasting and fashion media communication, as well as a six month fashion workshop are open to the public, with the fashion workshop starting on January 7th.
“Opportunities are being created for people in the UAE wishing to pursue a career in fashion and to capitalise on the region’s emergence as the world’s premier fashion destination. The fashion show was a resounding success and gives a good indication of the quality of the fashion scene that this country is likely to expect in the next couple of years,” Hostal concluded.
