The European Biennial of Young Artists (Jeune Création Européenne) is back in Montrouge

From 26 September to 25 October 2009, emerging European contemporary artists will be showing their work at the Montrouge Fabrique at the invitation of its Mayor, Jean-Loup Metton, for the first stage of the European Biennial of Young Artists (in French: Jeune Création Européenne)

A travelling exhibition, the European Biennial of Young Artists is a panorama of the innovative art trends in 9 different countries through the work of 90 promising artists taking their first steps on the stage of international commercial and institutional art.

A showcase of emerging contemporary art in Europe

European Biennial of Young ArtistsThe European Biennial of Young Artists is based on a European network of 8 pilot towns and cities the aim of which is to support the contemporary art produced by ten or so young artists in their countries. In the same way as Europe, the number of partner countries where the European Biennial of Young Artists exhibition will be on show is also growing: for this new edition, the number of partner countries will be increased from 6 to 8:

* AUSTRIA: Salzburg
* SPAIN: Barcelona / L’Hospitalet de Llobregat
* FRANCE: Montrouge
* HUNGARY: Pécs, 2010 Capital of Culture
* ITALY: Genoa
* LITHUANIA: Klaïpeda
* PORTUGAL: Porto / Amarante
* SLOVAKIA: Bratislava

In addition to these 8 partner countries where the Biennial exhibition will be on show, POLAND has been invited to Montrouge as a guest to present its young talents.

Exhibition curators in total harmony with the young artists
In each of these 9 countries, a curator closely involved in the local artistic and cultural scene has been asked to select 10 budding geniuses, just out of art school. These talent scouts are as follows:

* AUSTRIA: Dietgard GRIMMER, Director of the Salzburg Region Plastic Arts Department
* SPAIN: Mario PASQUALOTTO, Professor, exhibition curator at L’Hospitalet de Llobregat Tecla Sala Cultural Centre
* FRANCE: Stéphane CORREARD, Art critic, journalist and collector; he was the exhibition curator for the 54th edition of the Montrouge Contemporary Art Exhibition in 2009
* HUNGARY: Sara STENCZER, Art critic and curator at the Institut Hongrois de Paris (Paris Hungarian Institute)
* ITALY: Sandra SOLIMANO, Director of the Villa Croce Contemporary Art Museum in Genoa
* LITHUANIA: Goda GEDRAITYTE, Director of the Klaïpeda Culture and Arts Department
* POLAND: Beata NOWACKA, Curator of the Bunkier Sztuki Contemporary Art Centre
* PORTUGAL: Gisela LEAL, Professor at the Oporto School of Fine Art
* SLOVAKIA : Beata JABLONSKA, Professor at the Bratislava School of Fine Art

From the hundreds of applications received in each country, these curators have chosen a handful of artists that stand out for the quality and originality of their approach and their strength of expression, in terms of both content and form… the work of a total of 90 artists to be discovered.

The send-off for this contemporary art exhibition before its tour of Europe will take place at the Montrouge Fabrique from 26 September to 25 October 2009.
