THE FASHION STORM IS COMING
MIAMI FASHION WEEK® RETURNS FOR THE EIGHTH ANNUAL SEASON
Miami Beach, FL (April 5, 2006) – Miami Fashion Week®, the official fashion event for the City of Miami Beach and the largest Latin American fashion event in the US, returns for the 8th annual year, May 6 – 10, 2006. Previewing spring 2007 Collections from 40 of the top international designers, Miami Fashion Week® will concentrate on designers from North and South America including Mexico and Canada. A true international fashion extravaganza, Miami Fashion Week has been an integral component in the Miami fashion industry, bringing the city to the forefront with international press and attracting select designers from all over the world, including Russia, Spain, Pakistan, Egypt and India.
Miami Fashion Week® will present full-scale runway collections on the sands of South Beach, at the Fashion Tent located at 21st Street and Collins Avenue. Drawing some of the most exciting new and established designers in the world, participants will include Columbia’s Cecilia Perez, Russia’s D’Lorisan, Egypt’s Mohamed Dagher and Venezuela’s Jose Maria Almeida and Nicolas Felizola. These outstanding fashion innovators attract global celebrities, actors, entertainers and VIP’s alike during these exhilarating, trendsetting fashion showcases.
During this fashion-filled week, international jewelry and accessories designers including Fassardi & Rohrscheib of Venezuela and Samuel Burstein and Flor y Plata of Mexico will present and sell their creations at the Jewelry & Accessories Exhibition. Among other young and talented rising stars, students from South Florida’s Miami International University of Art & Design and the Design and Architecture Senior High School (DASH), will each have an opportunity to present their designs during separate student showcases.
Housing a 60 ft. runway and seating for 500 guests, the 300 ft. white Fashion Tent will transform into a spectacular entertainment venue featuring VIP luxury lounges with DJ performances, cafes and cocktail bars, mannequin and designer furniture displays and interactive high speed internet lounges. Following the runway shows each evening will be a series of afterglow parties at Miami Beach’s hottest nightclubs, hotels and restaurants.
Miami Fashion Week® will also incorporate bilingual educational seminars from May 2 – 4, focusing on a variety of fashion industry related subjects. Highlighted topics will include “How to Enter the US Market” and “Retail & Fashion Trends for Fall Winter 2006/2007” presented by Global Purchasing Group. Concluding the 2006 Educational Seminar Series, panelists from corporations including IMEX Trading, Inc., Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg, P.A., La Quinta USA and NYC’s TEIS will host “The Business of Fashion,” with a special presentation on “Anti-counterfeiting Initiatives” by Jason Lundy, Executive Director of Marketing at Harper’s Bazaar.
Closing the week-long fashion celebration will be the star-studded red carpet Miami Moda & Music Awards. Hosted by Candela Ferro, the awards show categories include Harper’s Bazaar en Español Designer’s Choice, Prêt-A-Porter Style, Excellence in Eveningwear, Celebrity Style, Murano Creativity Award and Diamond Award in Accessories among others.
