Durban Fashion Week 2009
 Durban Fashion Week (DFW) has, in the past four years since inception, been lauded by the media and the general fashion community, as having established itself as a fashion week platform of international standard. In addition to this acclaim, DFW has since been recognized as one of the most important events on the annual Durban calendar. DFW 2008 continued to build on past successes and registered over R60 million in audited media coverage.
The global economic crisis and looming recession has had a major negative impact on the marketing and sponsorship budgets across all economic sectors, including the fashion industry. Despite this difficulty, the Durban Fashion Week Organisation is determined to make this important business platform for fashion designers, take place as it has in previous years.
“We remain committed to continuing with the DFW platform and are currently in the process of securing the sponsorship required to hold DFW, albeit in a possible scaled-down version”, said Co-Chairpersons of the Durban Fashion Week Organization, Vanashree Singh & Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe.
DFW continues to be of paramount importance in terms of the positioning of the brand which is to be South Africa’s “cradle for new and emerging talent” and the contribution it makes to the local fashion industry and to the Durban economy and culture.
The organizers aim to make a further announcement in early April with confirmed details of the 2009 event.
