Dubai International Fashion Week to return in October
Dubai: Following the success of the highly acclaimed inaugural event, the organisers of Dubai International Fashion Week (DIFW), Concept Events, have announced dates for the 2nd edition. To be held from 22 to 25 October 2007 at the One&Only Royal Mirage, the pioneering trade event for the regional fashion industry will feature the spring summer 2008 collection of participating designers.
“The Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI), under whose patronage the event was held, expressed their appreciation at being associated with this first of its kind initiative,” said Aldrin Fernandes, CEO, Concept Group. “We have also had a very encouraging response from the trade and media with the event being well received.”
The 1st edition of DIFW, which was held last April, saw a mix of established and emerging talent presenting their collections to an audience of local, regional and international buyers and media. Some notable names such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Sauce, Baco Design, Liberty, Zerga, Touch of Class, Desert Rose and Nicole Farhi marked their presence.
“This is the beginning of the world of fashion in the Middle East,” said Lily Amir Arjomand, general merchandise manager from Saks Fifth Avenue. While Mare Elston, from PNYG said "This is definitely an event to attend for those seeking brand new fashion talents who display a cross-cultural fusion mix. DIFW is a perfect addition to Dubai's emerging fashion and arts scene."
The first edition of DIFW saw participation from both established and emerging talent from Saudi Arabia, Denmark, India, Lebanon and Pakistan, apart from the UAE. True to its mission it provided talent from the region a platform to interact with the regional buyer fraternity. “DIFW has helped me position the Tiramisu brand at the right level and gave it the exposure it needed to grow. The event acted as a focal point that brought together designers, buyers and media under one roof,” said Maryam Badri, an emerging regional talent who has showcased her designs at DIFW F/W07.
Building on the tremendous goodwill generated after the first event, the October edition will continue to focus on designers from the Middle East while simultaneously reaching out to more international buyers in a sustained bid to take the regional fashion industry to the centre stage of global trends.
