Bali Fashion Week VII


Philippine-based international fashion designer Rajo Laurel, known for his avant-garde collection, will join BALI FASHION WEEK VII on November 22-24, 2007 at the Discovery Kartika Plaza Hotel to display some of his premium works in recent years.
Rajo studied at the famed Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and later went to the prestigious Central St. Martin’s in London. At the start of his career he has received Air France’s Young Designer of the Year (1994), Most Promising Designer of the Year (1996) and The Loop’s (Editor’s Choice Award) Favorite Designer (1998).

Bali and Bali Fashion Week

In 2005, Bali has been awarded as the most favored island in the world. It has also been known for its rich culture, well-preserved tradition, as well as its highly creative & talented people. International buyers take the opportunity to source creative-related goods produced in Indonesia through Bali, no wonder, Bali is the selected location for such a culturally rich fashion week.

Bali Fashion Week is an annual trade event held by Moda Bali Foundation that combines fashion, art and culture. The event is used as a platform for buyers and sellers to meet and discuss potential business relationships.

Bali is chosen to be the host of the event due to its popularity as a showcase to the international world within Indonesia. As an island that is full of inspiration, it also displays various arts & traditions from different parts of Indonesia, Bali possesses an attractive variety to both domestic and international markets.

The event is held annually in Bali to support the growth of the tourism industry while providing the convenient area for the participants (domestic & international) to become inspired by the ever flowing creations seen in the “Island of the Gods”, such as;

For six years, Bali Fashion Week has been the choice venue for textile, garment, accessory, producers, professional designers and buyers from all over the globe and has been the springboard for numerous young talents searching for world recognition.

Under the careful guidance of the Country Steering Committee, Bali Fashion Week VII has become more individually selective while at the same time expanding the areas of selection, both nationally and internationally presenting only the best in creativity, artistry and quality for which this island is rightfully known.

Mission & Vision
1. To provide an international medium for the Indonesian fashion business players to be part of, and at the same time to use this medium as a learning platform for the development of their businesses internationally.
2. To assist the Indonesian government in promoting the small and medium industry which leads to embetterment of the Indonesian economy.
3. To gain maximum exposure for our sponsors and partners.
4. To promote Indonesian culture through its traditional textiles and accessories.
5. To support the Indonesian government’s efforts in bringing back the trust of the Indonesian tourist’s safety.
6. To assist the promotion of supporting tourism businesses such as airlines, travel agents, hotels, food & beverage by having them as partners of the event.

Objectives
1. To introduce Indonesian fashion-related businesses to both domestic & international buyers to further assist them in the creation of effective business link.
2. To widen the international network of Indonesian fashion/textile businesses.
3. To assist in the promotion and development of small and medium enterprises in Indonesia, especially those whose scope of production is related to fashion & accessories.
4. To present talented Indonesian fashion designers and accessories producers to an international scope of trade exhibitions with concentration on export.
5. To showcase the “One of A Kind” items that is part of the rich Indonesian culture & tradition for both domestic & international buyers to appreciate the values behind them to further open the possibility of business.
6. To keep on promoting Indonesia, in this case Bali, as a professional, convenient and yet friendly area for MICE (Meetings, Incentive, Conferences, and Exhibitions)

On FashiOn the Street, designers have the opportunity to create one spectacular costume with the theme “Trihita Karana”. The Best Design Awards will be announced at the Finale of the Street Carnival Evening. The Carnival is aimed at promoting tourism for Indonesia.

Programs:

1. International Designer's show
Collections of both, the Indonesian and International participating fashion designers, will be showcased on three consecutive nights for buyers, media, professionals, as well as the general public to view.

2. FashiON the street
FashiONthestreet is a street carnival, taking the theme of "Fashion meets Art", incorporating various creative ideas for elaborate creations. This carnival, based on the Indonesian art & culture, is aimed at promoting the Indonesia tourism. It will provide the media, photographers and visitors with beautiful memories, encouraging many to return for the following year’s events.

3. Meet the designers & Fashion talks
Always popular are the Bali Fashion Week seminars and discussions that carry interesting topics tailored for all the fashion/textile business players and professionals. Fashion trends and business development in the global arena, will be presented by the related experts from Indonesia and the international work place.

4. Trade show & expo
The trade exhibition will be showcasing various fashion/textile/accessory related products mainly from Indonesia and other global locations. The exhibition area will be filled with art & culture products from Indonesia, packaged to suit the International requirements, mostly made by small and medium enterprises. One of our missions is to strengthen the promotion of their products and services to the international business players by merging the Indonesian tradition with modern market needs globally.

5. One of a Kind
One of a Kind is a program to preserve the endangered textiles of Indonesia, showcasing textile, cloth, weave and hand-made accessory, made in limited edition. Suitable for collectors as they appreciate in value as years passed.

6. Student Fashion Competition
For the first time, The Bali Fashion Week VII will incorporate a “Student Fashion Competition” as part of its program. Fashion schools will send two of their selected fashion design students to enroll their designs by our judges who are experts in the related field. The three winners will be announced in a final fashion show. This fashion competition is aimed at promoting young Indonesian designers so they have the opportunity to gain access to the international fashion market.

7. Model Award Competition
This is a new event to find top models of the future. The participation offers models access into professional modeling.

8. Fashion Photo Competition
The Fashion Photo Competition is open to entries that brings a fresh photographic style to the fashion industry and fashion media, and capturing the spirit and quality of the Bali Fashion Week.

9.Fashion.Art Installation and Performance
As the main theme of 07 Bali Fashion Week “Fashion meets Art” is the integration of fashion and art into a creative package. Some visual artists, dancers and fashion designers will work together in a group inspired art creation to be shown at 07 Bali Fashion Week.
