CIFF expands by 5,000 square metres

Copenhagen International Fashion Fair has had to think outside the box to cope with the ever increasing waiting list for Europe's biggest fashion fair

Every square metre in Bella Center is taken up when Europe’s biggest fashion fair, Copenhagen International Fashion Fair, attracts thousands of buyers from home and abroad twice a year. CIFF has never been more popular, and in the last few years, exhibitors have had to wait in line for a place in Copenhagen's fashion shop window.

- But what use is a waiting list if, at times, you can hardly get your foot in the door? Well, that is why we had to think outside the box when we were planning CIFF28. We can’t squeeze even more exhibitors into the exhibition hall, explains Bella Center’s exhibition director Peter Sabroe.

Therefore, shortly before CIFF28 on the 8–11 February, a 5,000 square metre tent will be put up in Bella Center's internal car park. This will ensure that more than 60 more companies can be added to the list of exhibitors. C5, which is what the new "hall" will be called, will be connected to B and C halls by a nine metre wide covered walkway, and with patio heaters, carpets and decorations it will be just as attractive as the main area indoors.

- The extra floor space has given us the opportunity to move things around a little – so it’s not just new exhibitors who will get the chance to display their fashions in the tent. There will be an exciting mixture of well-known and new exhibitors, Peter Sabroe continues.

When Bella Center opens it doors on the 8th February for the 28th edition of CIFF, the previous record of 40,683 net square metres of exhibition space will be smashed. It is expected that CIFF28 will take up more than 43,000 net square metres. At the same time, the team behind the fair expect to top the magic number of 1,000 exhibitors. Even with the extra 5,000 square metres CIFF has had to report that it is sold out – two months before it is even due to open.

CIFF is the fashion industry’s closed buyers’ fair, where fashion producers will exhibit their Autumn-Winter collections for the season 2007/2008 for the first time.

THE MARY EFFECT IS SPREADING
The fact that Crown Princess Mary has become the protector of CIFF has been noticed by the international press who was impressed with her diligent participation in many of the fashion shows at the fair.

Textilia (NL): "We would also like a fashion ambassador", said the magazine’s Chief Editor, Nancy Berendsen.

Expressen (S) said that "the protector of the largest fashion fair in Europe ordered several suits during her tour at CIFF and got inspiration for her wardrobe from CIFF's Trend Show."

Verdens Gang (N): "The last four days, Mary was working from early morning till late night for Danish fashion."
In a joint interview given to the Australian media, Crown Princess Mary said: "Danes are very good at designing discrete glamour which is also versatile. It is nice to wear and it looks good."
