CIFF TRENDS - FASHION SEASON SPRING-SUMMER 2006

True Folk / UK

Mood
A sereine ambiance flooded with sun and light admits the olive trees and lavender of the southern lands. A return to the simple life of well-being, true values and the beauty of natural materials. A pronounced rural influence for a style mixing peasant and work wear shapes with a touch of poetry. A desire for simplicity and roots, bringing the folklore borrowed from the French Provence, gipsies and gauchos very much up date.

Colours

For women: The faded shades of handcrafted earthenware and pottery accompanied by olive greens. In addition are more coloured tones for fresh harmonies treated in two-tones with white.

Colours
For men: A rural range; vegetal tones of berries and cereals, reminded countryside associated with a greige evoking natural linen.

Fabrics
Cotton is the star of this theme, for its fresh, light qualities with sometimes mini relief such as honeycombs or piques. Also study cottons and linen in a work spirit extremely softened for an already worn look: Herringbone, faded denim, whited twill.
Lighter are the voiles, crepons, embroidered fabrics and the freshness of real broderie anglaise. In a more fanciful spirit are the jacquards or two-tone yarn dyes with mini Provencal motifs or either simple stripes or checks inspired by household linen.
Importance of all Provencal motives; either placed or used in frieze form.
For knit; piqué, guipure and crochets effects.

Womenswear
A fresh, feminine, relaxed silhouette creating a look evoking the 1950’s with printed petticoat-skirts worn over with layers of men’s tank tops or tied shirts and small cardigans. Inspired by “grandpa” or peasant skirts, dresses, tunics and shirts are accompanied by cigarette-legged pants, or the more comfortable cropped grandpa pants.
Short jeans jackets and blousons, either close fitting or slightly flared and a little “retro”. Also a playful poetic “beauty of the fields” in maxi folkloric Provencal prints for flounced skirts, bloomer shorts, Capri pants.
A girly bucolic silhouette with shirt and peasant blouse neckline, fantasy tank tops, lingerie spirit for tops and dresses to mix with casual pieces and enveloping knits.
Fun and folk spirit inspired by a mix and match of gipsies and Spanish influences: Shirts and blouses very feminine while waists are shapely.

Menswear
A “working in the fields” inspiration with layered silhouette all englobing volumes with a rounded look for cropped jackets with dropped shoulders and pants with high turned–over waists in contrasting materials and coordinate cardigans. Large pockets in a “sewing” spirit and relaxed farmer line. A mix and match of lightweight poetic “military and urban” basics associated with more fashion-conscious models: Short printed blazers, crinkled trousers of loose volumes and fantasy detailing.
